Le Beaujolais Nouveau 2020 Est Arrivé

On Friday 27th November, the French-Zambian Chamber of Commerce (FZCC) hold its annual “Beaujolais Nouveau” event, at the newly inaugurated Bonanza Resort & Hotel.

The Beaujolais Nouveau is a “primeur wine” (or new wine) from a specific variety of grape called the Gamay grape, in the region of Burgundy in France.

Each year, on the third Thursday of the month of November the young wine is tasted, and celebrations take place not only in France but around the world, as this French tradition transcends cultures and borders.

Here in Zambia, the garden party at the Residence of France in Lusaka, organized by the FZCC, is a much anticipated social and festive event. In November 2019 it attracted more than 800 people.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, such a huge gathering could not take place this year. Instead, the FZCC proposed an exclusive dinner to its members.

In the beautiful venue of Bonanza Resort, the guests were welcomed with a glass of Champagne and gathered for a pre-dinner cocktail while listening to live music on the terrace overlooking the golf course. Then the dinner was served in the ballroom, where fine cuisine could be tasted along with some freshly imported Beaujolais Nouveau.

This was the occasion to welcome the new Ambassador of France to Zambia, His Excellency Francois Goldblatt.

FZCC board members, Mr. Olufemi Babajide -TOTAL Zambia Managing Director- and Mr. Ahmed Khalifa -LAFARGE Zambia Chief Financial Officer- both came with a large delegation and gave their full support to the success of the event.

Many members of the Chamber also responded to the invitation; the management and top executives of the following companies were attending:
FNB, AGS, ECOBANK, MUSA DUDHIA & Company, CMA-CGM, MOIRA MUKUKA Legal Practitioners, MANIC CREATIVES, BUREAU VERITAS, REPROGRAPHIX.

Among the 85 guests were also represented: LIQUID TELECOM, the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the French School of Lusaka. Special thanks to:the French Embassy (Mr. Loic Granger in particular) for supplying the Beaujolais wine; Tsungai and his band “Dimuba”, with Luse as the lead singer; the Management and the Chef of Bonanza Resort & Hotel.
